With the sudden popularity of Monavie and the flood of Acai Berry products in its' tow recently, you wouldn't be the first person to ask if Monavie and Acai are scams.
To begin to ask the question if Monavie is a Scam or not, first you must clarify if you are talking about the business of Monavie or the Acai berry products that they make. We'll tackle both of those separately here.
Monavie Inc. - Is the company a scam?
As far as Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) companies go, Monavie is clearly one of the largest and most successful of all times. They have received far fewer lawsuits than MLMs half of their size, although many feel that all MLMs are a scam at the very core in the first place. They all have a common business model of making distributors pay to join and then buy the product themselves Making their own distributors the only sizable base of customers.
However, while some find the MLM business model less than truthful, there is nothing illegal nor evil about it. Even with a recent string of Lawsuits against Monavie, they do not hide the fact that they make their money from signing up distributors and selling to them first and foremost. Monavie has never been found guilty of anything that would implicate them as scammers.
Monavie's Product - Is it simply too good to be true?
High international transportation costs for the ingredients is the excuse Monavie gives for the exorbitant price of $40 per bottle. It seems more likely that they are building a lot of room into the price of each bottle so that their distributors have a chance to profit. Even still, you can see the word Acai anywhere online these days without a link to some film where a distributor is telling you how Monavie is curing his heart disease or has saved his child's life from cancer! This is strictly against the Monavie terms of agreement, by the way.
Since the many exotic ingredients, especially the ultra-volatile Acai berry that makes up the majority of each bottle, are very costly to produce the price of Monavie may only be slightly inflated. However the outrageous claims made by the distributors are the real damaging element here; and it without it there is no evidence of unsubstantiated claims at all.
The final word is that Monavie isn't doing anything wrong, except perhaps not being strict enough towards its' own distributors when they are caught breaking the rules. The sad thing though is that this is a failing of all MLMs, because it's the business model itself that is flawed. You simply can't say that Monavie is a Scam without implicating all other MLMs too.
